USA stars ‘earn $13m for advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup’ after defeating Iran

USA stars ‘make $13m in total earnings for advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup’ with victory over Iran seeing them progress as Group B runners-up – and they’ll get $42m if they go all the way!

Glory is not the only thing to be won at the World Cup – with teams all set to earn plenty in prize money for achievement in the competition.

The United States men’s national team earned more when they defeated Iran 1-0 on Tuesday evening in Qatar.

For making the knockout stages, the team is set to make $13million in total earnings – having already secured $9m for appearing in the World Cup.

The US will reap the rewards of reaching the knockouts in the form of $13m in prize money

If the USMNT makes it further than the Round of 16, they will continue to increase their total payout.

For example, if they’re able to run all the way to the World Cup Final and win the trophy, they’ll take $42m back stateside.

It’s part of a greater pool of $440m in prize money that FIFA will be distributing during this year’s tournament. That’s an increase of about $40m from the previous World Cup in Russia in 2018.

When the US eventually collects that money to bring back to the federation, they’ll be splitting the prize money with the US women’s national team after a new collective bargaining agreement will see both senior teams pool and split prize money.
