US Open winner Wyndham Clark receives congratulatory messages from some of golfs biggest fans

Wyndham Clark was congratulated by some of golf’s most popular fans, including Paige Spiranac, Pat McAfee and Skip Bayless, after his US Open triumph.

The American, 29, held his nerve during the final round on Sunday to win his first ever major.  

Newly-hired ESPN analyst and former All-Pro NFL punter Pat McAfee Tweeted an image of the TV screen he was watching, showing Clark being hugged, writing in the caption: ‘Man… I am so happy for Wyndham Clark. Hellll yeah brother.. what a story.. what a week.. WHAT A CHOMPION.’

Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless joined in when he tweeted out: ‘CONGRATS TO WYNDHAM CLARK FOR BEATING THE SUPERSTARS IN HOLLYWOOD, WINNING HIS 1ST MAJOR, THE US OPEN AT LOS ANGELES COUNTRY CLUB. CLUTCH CHIP ON 17, CLUTCH LENGTHY APPROACH PUTT ON 18. STOLE THE SHOW.’

Before Sunday’s big tournament win, Clark had never finished higher than 75th in a major event he had participated in.

Clark won the US Open and took home his first trophy in a major event, on Sunday

Clark broke down in tears after clinching the title at Los Angeles Country Club as he looked up to the sky thinking of his late mother Lise.

He lost his mom to breast cancer when he was just 19 years old and he said he felt his ‘mom was watching over me today’.

The Denver, Colorado native also captivated many due to the story of his late mother who passed away when he was 19 years old and in college.

Golf’s social media sensation Spiranac revealed she played with Clark in Colorado as she paid tribute to him on Sunday. 

‘Wyndham Clark and I grew up playing junior golf together in Colorado. Everyone would always say he had something special and we all knew he’d make it. Now he’s a major winner! Very cool moment.

While the Denver Broncos tweeted ‘Congratulations to the Colorado kid, @Wyndham_Clark, on his @usopengolf win!’ along with a picture of Clark wearing a team sweater and hat while standing on the sidelines of an NFL game.

He also received a message from the 2021-2022 Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, who tweeted out: ‘Congratulations to Denver’s own Wyndham Clark on bringing another championship to the Mile High City!’

It’s been quite a year for Denver with the Nuggets also coming out on top in the NBA Finals. 

Another tweet from Barstool inventor Dave Portnoy said: ‘Good for Wyndham Clark. Held off a star-studded leaderboard the entire day. Earned it.’ 

Clark pocketed $3.6million for winning one of golf’s four major tournaments.
