US: Ford, Chevrolet, BMW, Mitsubishi, Chrysler recall over 1.3 million vehicles; Here’s all you need to know

The US government has issued multiple recalls of around 1.3 million vehicles. According to U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 668,000 Chevrolet and GMC SUVs are to be recalled due to risk attached to faulty child seat latches, over 422,000 Ford and Lincoln SUVs and approximately 90,000 Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs for issues with the rearview camera. Moreover, at least 1,000 Fleetwood and Holiday Rambler RVs were also recalled over risks of faulty tow hitches. On the official website of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), people are allowed to search for recalls based on the vehicle identification number (VIN). It is to note that NHTSA recalled Jeep Cherokee vehicles for the model year 2014-2016 affecting at least 132,099 automobiles. Impacting at least 668,187 vehicles, General Motors issued a recall for 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain automobiles due to issues reported by the four rear-seat lower child seat latch. As per reports, the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children in the mentioned vehicles could have increased powder coating which could prevent the child seat from being properly attached to the anchorage bars, according to the safety recall report filed by General Motors to NHTSA. The recalled vehicles include 454,722 of its 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and 213,465 of its 2020-2023 GMC Terrain.

Mitsubishi is also pulling back 89,907 of its 2022-2023 Outlander and 2023 Outlander PHEV SUVs due to a software error which may lead the backup camera rearview image not to appear on the display. As per USA Today, Mitsubishi revealed the issue in its own safety recall report. It is also known that the vehicles produced after February 10, 2023, were installed with an updated software package which does not cause the black screen to appear. The owners of impacted vehicles will be reportedly notified on June 20.

Ford is pulling pack its 2020-2023 Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair SUVs installed with a 360-degree camera over the potential failure of video output. The hindrance in the video output is preventing any display of the rearview camera image. Impacting 422,201 vehicles, Ford is recalling 311,453 of its 2020-2023 Ford Explorers, 80,314 of its 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator, and 30,434 of its 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair.

BMW is also pulling back at least 97,933 of its 2007-2013 Mini Cooper Hardtop and 2008-2014 Mini Cooper Clubman vehicles over an electronic control module at the driver’s side, controlling a range of lighting and power window functions, which may short-circuit due to corrosion. According to NHTSA, the sunroof drain hose in certain vehicles may subsequently detach allowing water to enter inside the vehicle. The recall impacts 76,777 of BMW’s 2007-2013 Mini Cooper Hardtop 2-Door Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works vehicles along with 21,156 of 2008-2014 Mini Cooper Clubman, Clubman Cooper S, Clubman John Cooper Works.

Additionally, Chrysler’s 17,108 of its 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and Grand Cherokee vehicles are being recalled due to the dashboard missing the airbag warning. It would impact 7,041 of Chrysler’s 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 10,067 of its 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
