Unpacking Naomi Pierce’s Billionaire-Chic Mullet on “Succession”
“When Annabelle landed the role in Succession Season 2, I thought: ‘Here’s a New England family that is very WASP-y, very intellectual… let’s do something conservative,’” he says. This is why, when we first meet Naomi Pierce, she has a polite, side-parted lob. By Season 3, the scion is spending more time in New York. Her bob needed to get sharp: Dexter-Jones lost an inch and a half of creamy blonde locks to the Parlor floor.
A curveball struck as filming for Season 4 was fast approaching. The actress had a jet-black crop cut in for a different screen role. As Javier puts it: “I couldn’t have Naomi Pierce follow up the best bob of my career with just any short haircut!”
Javier petitioned for a mullet.
“I don’t think so…” Dexter-Jones said repeatedly.
“Did I say “mullet”? I meant “mu-llet mignon,” as in “cute mullet” in French.”
“That sounds kind of good,” she said.
Mullets, admittedly, have had a bad rap. (I don’t want to throw Pat Sharp under the bus, but: Pat Sharp). Unlike its predecessors, the Naomi Pierce mullet couldn’t look ’80s or grungy; it needed to be “rich.” This is, after all, a haircut that deliberately sits behind the ears so as not to obscure expensive earrings. So, what should we be asking of our hairstylists?
