Uncharted Movie Review: Uncharted
Synopsis: Based on a popular video game franchise, Uncharted, a treasure hunt roller coaster follows explorers Nate (Tom Holland) and Sully (Mark Wahlberg) as they embark on a globetrotting adventure to uncover undiscovered riches. Although, they are not in this race alone and with the stakes so high, must find a way to trust each other.
Review: A buff Tom Holland is on a roll. The 25-year-old beloved Spiderman is fast becoming the singular reason for drawing us back to cinemas, ensuring us the most fun we have had at the movies in recent times. After his spectacular ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ that caused a Tsunami at the box office, he returns with another terrific adventure — Uncharted. And we must say, the web-slinger can fight the good fight. His expertise as an action hero, especially his immersive Parkour stunts coupled with snappy wisecracks make him an ideal choice for this franchise. Like Ryan Reynolds, Holland’s vulnerable and quirky, foot-in-mouth funny personality spills into his screen characters giving him an edge over the others.
Ruben Fleischer’s thrilling adventure is an adaptation of a video game series by the same name. His film serves as a prequel to the games so you see a younger Nate, an emotional backstory and his love-hate relationship with a much senior Sully. Fret not — you don’t have to be a video games fan to enjoy this treasure-hunting romp. Beyond the exploration and spectacular action set pieces, at heart, it’s a classic buddy relationship movie that is massively entertaining. Holland and Wahlberg have great chemistry and their camaraderie makes this action comedy a thrill ride from start to finish. The film doesn’t forsake its dialogue and emotions for action. It strikes a perfect balance which makes it a wholesome entertainer.
Fleischer, director of the Zombieland, Gangster Squad and the first Venom movie brings his own mood to the franchise without losing out on its essence. Mind you, this is popcorn entertainment at its best so don’t expect gravitas or reason. Just watch people trick each other in a mad heist through a series of amazing stunt scenes. Bring on the sequel we say!
PS: There are two post credit scenes so don’t leave the theatre immediately.
