UFC Vegas 57: Shavkat Rakhmonov submits Neil Magny in one sided fight

UFC Vegas 57: Shavkat Rakhmonov defeated Neil Magny.
Shavkat Rakhmonov defeated Neil Magny via submission (guillotine choke), Round 2 – 4:57 at UFC Vegas 57 on Saturday, June 25, 2022, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.
“Neil Magny was good. That was why I took my time… I knew I was winning that’s why I didn’t rush… Dana White, you know my name. In one or two years, I will be UFC champion. Stephen Thompson, you’re next,” said Rakhmonov who started the interview with the help of a translator and then finished by calling out Thompson in English.
Rakhmonov caught a Magny body kick and dropped him with a right hand. Rakhmonov got on top of Magny and landed a few strong punches. Magny landed a strong up-kick but could not get back to his feet. Rakhmonov alternated punches to the body and head. With Magny unable to get up, Rakhmonov landed a heavy elbow. Magny grabbed a hold of Rakhmonov’s ankle but could not lock in a submission.
Rakhmonov caught another body kick and landed a pair of jabs. Rakhmonov landed a powerful spin kick to the body. The two fighters clinched against the cage, with Rakhmonov tripping Magny and getting top position. Magny did a good job defending and preventing Rakhmonov from landing more big shots. Rakhmonov continued to control the position, not allowing Magny any chance to get back to his feet. Rakhmonov landed several strong punches in the final minute of the round. With less than 15 seconds remaining in the round, Rakhmonov locked in a guillotine choke that forced Magny to tap out with three remaining in the round.
Magny entered the Octagon for the 27th time since making his UFC debut at UFC 157 on Feb. 23, 2013. The UFC’s 10th-ranked welterweight entered the fight on a two-fight winning streak and with wins in five of his previous six fights. With a win, Magny would have set the UFC record for the most wins in the welterweight division, surpassing Georges St-Pierre.
Rakhmonov was ranked 15th in the welterweight division as he walked into the Octagon. The undefeated prospect finished all 15 of his opponents heading into the fight with Magny. Rakhmonov won his first three fights in the UFC. In his last fight, Rakhmonov earned a performance of the night bonus for his knockout of Carlston Harris.
