Song Yadong defeated Marlon Moraes via knockout (punch), Round 1 – 2:06 at UFC Vegas 50 on Saturday, March 12, 2022, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.

“Our first round was planned for defense mostly but there was a chance so I went for it. I want to fight Dominick Cruz next. I have a lot of respect for him. I was a fan of his when I watched him when I was younger,” said Yadong through the help of his wife Daisy who served as his translator.

The two fighters traded strikes throughout the first round until the finish came out of seemingly nowhere. Yadong came forward and feinted with his left hand twice, then landed a short uppercut with his left hand and then followed it up with a massive right uppercut that landed square on the bottom. Moraes fell backward and looked completely stunned and out of it on the canvas. Referee Keith Peterson immediately stopped the fight, while Yadong just walked it off.

Moraes was once one of the most feared men in the UFC’s bantamweight division. However, the Brazilian entered Saturday’s trying to prove he was still a contender. Moraes entered the Octagon with four losses in his last five fights. In his lone victory, Moraes won a controversial split decision over Jose Aldo. In his last fight, Moraes was knocked out by Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 266. The loss to Yadong was the fourth straight fight that Moraes was knocked out.

Yadong entered the fight as the bantamweight division’s 14th ranked fight, four spots behind the 10th ranked Moraes. The fight represented the biggest fight of Yadong’s career. In his last fight, Yadong scored a head kick knockout of Julio Arce. Following the biggest win of his career, Yadong’s future looks bright.
