Uddhav faction fields Rutuja Latke from Andheri East for upcoming bypoll
Rutuja’s issue had been mired in controversy as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) where she was working as a clerk had not accepted her resignation. However, after the Bombay High Court asked BMC to accept her resignation. The BMC on Friday morning said her resignation had been accepted.
To show a united front, the Shiv Sena has brought in senior MVA leaders such as Dilip Walse Patil of the Nationalist Congress Party as well as Mumbai Congress Chief Bhai Jagtap while Rutuja was filing her nomination. The Shiv Sena claimed the BJP would be so badly trounced in the elections that its candidate would even lose its deposit.
Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar countered by claiming that the Uddhav group’s candidate would lose the polls. “They (Sena members) have been crying about the courts and complaining about the Election Commission. After the results, they are going to cry and complain against the voters, “said Shelar as Patel was filing his nomination.
The BJP, like the Uddhav group, had also decided to display its show of strength with senior ministers from the Eknath Shinde camp, such as Deepak Kesarkar being present for the occasion.
