U.S. reaches men’s basketball gold-medal game with win over Australia
The United States will get a chance to earn its fourth-consecutive gold in men’s basketball at the Tokyo Olympics.
Team USA defeated Australia 97-78 to reach the final for the fourth-straight time.
Kevin Durant had a game-high 23 points in his campaign to join Carmelo Anthony as the only men’s basketball player to win three straight gold medals in the Olympic Games. Devin Booker added 20 points in the win.

Luka Doncic and Slovenia will face Rudy Gobert’s France in the other semifinal — scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m. ET — for a chance to face the States in the gold-medal game. Australia will face the loser of that matchup for bronze.
The last time the U.S. failed to qualify for the Olympic final in men’s basketball was at Athens 2004, when it lost to Argentina in the semis. The Argentines went on to win gold, while Team USA defeated Lithuania to win bronze. The Americans have earned a medal in every Olympic Games since 1980, when the nation withdrew from the tournament amid a boycott of the Moscow Olympics.
