Tyson Fury’s wife Paris says Deontay Wilder should retire after knockout loss in trilogy fight
Tyson Fury’s wife Paris says Deontay Wilder should RETIRE because ‘he is not good at boxing’ and ‘not tough enough’ after knockout loss in trilogy fight with Gypsy King
Tyson Fury’s wife, Paris, has taken shots at Deontay Wilder, claiming the American is ‘not good at boxing’ and should walk away from the sport after losing for a second time to her husband.
Wilder was stopped in the 11th round of a brutal fight in Las Vegas on Saturday as Fury retained the WBC heavyweight he had stripped the Bronze Bomber of in February 2020.
Back then, Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round, but the American lasted until the penultimate stanza in the trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena in front of over 15,000 fans.
Paris Fury said she and her husband did not want to hear Deontay Wilder’s name again
Fury floored the Alabama fighter in the third and 10th round, before referee Russell Mora intervened to stop the fight in the 11th round after the American had again been knocked down.
‘Clearly he [Wilder] is a tough man, but he’s not tough enough,’ Paris Fury told iFL TV after the fight.
Wilder had been the bookmakers’ favourites in the first two instalment of his rivalry against Fury, but arrived into the trilogy bout as a 3-1 underdog.
The first fight in December 2018 ended in a controversial split draw, before the Gypsy King convincingly won the rematch in February 2020 and then retained his belt on Saturday.
Fury embraced her husband after he retained his WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas
Fury declared the ‘Wilder saga is done now, done for good’ after the trilogy fight and his wife agreed.
‘Three times [in a row] now,’ she said in reference to her husband’s three encounters with the American.
‘Maybe he [Wilder] will shut up now, go home and go to bed. I’ll be polite but we don’t want to hear that man’s name again.
‘Let him go and do something else, do something else that he’s good at. He’s not good at boxing clearly.’
Tyson Fury celebrates his win in Las Vegas – but Deontay Wilder refused to embrace him
Fury won the heavyweight thriller in the 11th round of a bout where both fighters hit the deck
Wilder, whose record now stands at 42-2-1 with 41 win by KO, looked on the verge of regaining his belt in the fourth round when he twice floored Fury, only for the defending champion to beat the count both times.
The American, whose only two career losses have both come against the Gypsy King, was taken to hospital for evaluation as a precaution after the fight and conceded the Briton’s tactical plan had paid off.
‘I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,’ he said.
‘I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277lbs to be a ballet dancer.
‘He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.’
In his post-fight press conference, meanwhile, Fury dubbed his rival a ‘sore loser’ and an ‘idiot’ for refusing his attempt to embrace him at the end of the bout.
‘It’s a sore loser in boxing,’ he said.
‘He’s not the first one and he won’t be the last one. But I’ve acted like a gentleman throughout my career and that’s all I can do as a man.’
