Two Indians among three dead in suspected drone attack in Abu Dhabi

In a suspected drone attack that blew up petrol tanks near a major oil storage facility in Abu Dhabi, three people were killed and six injured.

The explosions resulted in the death of a Pakistani national and two Indian nationals, as per the Abu Dhabi police, who did not identify the wounded that suffered minor-to-moderate wounds. The investigation is still underway, they added.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack targeting the United Arab Emirates, though the Abu Dhabi police has not yet offered any suspects for the possible assault.

Abu Dhabi police said preliminary investigations indicate small flying objects, possibly belonging to drones, that fell in two areas and may have caused the explosion and fire, AP reported.

Unverified footage on social media showed thick black smoke coming from what appears to be the Musaffah area.

The UAE has been at war in Yemen since early 2015, and was a member of the Saudi-led coalition that launched attacks against the Iranian-backed Houthis. It also cooperates with the United States in counter-terrorism operations in Yemen.

The Houthis have claimed previous attacks on Abu Dhabi’s airport, as well as the emirate’s Barakah nuclear power plant. These claims have been denied in the past by Emirati officials.
