Twitter thread reveals all hidden details from Wake Up Sid: Aisha’s salary, Sid’s ex, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani connect

A Twitter user’s attention to detail in Ayan Mukerji’s directorial debut film Wake Up Sid has got our attention too. The 2009 film, that starred Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles, was about Siddharth Mehra, a spoilt and selfish college student who learns the meaning of life and the importance of responsibility from Aisha Banerjee, an aspiring writer from Kolkata. The film was a critical and commercial success, with both Ranbir and Konkona receiving positive reviews for their performances. A thread by Twitter account Ishq-e-Fillum revealed that the film also contained many minute details that most viewers might have missed. The details hint at Sid’s previous relationships, his love for Harry Potter, and even revealed Aisha’s salary.

The first small detail pointed out by the thread lies in the very first shot of the movie, where a copy of the Mumbai Beat magazine can be seen lying on Sid’s desk. Both Sid and Aisha later work at the same magazine. The next tweet reveals that Sid, who lazily prepared for his final college exams, is passing time in the examination hall by making a Harry Potter-inspired crossword. The crossword had Hermione, Hogwarts, Harry, Snape, and names of other characters from the fictional wizarding world interconnected to each other.

Another scene of the movie shows that Sid has bought two copies of the same game- Skate. The tweet read, “Maybe it’s intentional to show us he’s that rich.” A closer look at the scene that showed Sid on his laptop revealed that he possibly had an ex-girlfriend named Panchami Ghavri. The tweet pointed out, “We get a glimpse of Sid’s inbox. Most of them are random messages but you can spot a pattern in msgs sent by someone named “Panchami Ghavri.” Messages include ” I’m over you” and “I want you back” so clearly there were things left unresolved.” The tweet also revealed that Panchami was an assistant director on the set.

The next tweet said that Ayan’s movies could be turned into a cinematic Universe, considering that he picked up a detail from his debut film and later used it in his 2013 film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which starred Ranbir and Deepika Padukone. A sign reading “Hot beer, lousy food, bad service, welcome,” could be seen outside Bunny’s apartment in YJHD.

A photograph that Aisha picks up while shopping for her house ends up on the wall in her living room. The photograph, a portrait of actor Madhubala, was seen at multiple points during the film. Aisha, who was a fan of Hindi classical music, also has a line from the famous song Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo on one of the walls. The line reads, “Waqt ki qaid mein zindagi hai magar…Chand ghadiyan yahi hai jo azaad hai.”

Ayan has also displayed drafts of Aisha’s New Girl In The City article in one of the scenes. Masaba Masaba director Sonam Nair, who did subtitles for Wake Up Sid, revealed that it was she who wrote all the articles.

Another scene reveals the salary Aisha was getting at her new job. A tweet reads, “Btw in case, someone was wondering, Aisha’s salary is Rs. 28,000. I am not sure how good or bad this was in 2008 but remember that Aisha had no experience and moved to a new city without a job in hand.”

In addition, the office of Mumbai Beat magazine has a pin-up board where the next issue is being planned, and the issue that is finally published was consistent with the ideas on the board. One of the scenes also shows Sid’s iPod that was listed with multiple pieces that play throughout the movie.

Since the thread was posted, fans of Wake Up Sid have been adding details to it that they spotted in the movie. One pointed out, “When Sid becomes more of an ‘adult’, he is shown reading Murakami’s Norwegian Wood. This book is earlier shown next to Konkana’s bed. The book also has an older woman and young boy in an amorous relationship!” Another pointed at a tapestry in Sid’s room, writing, “also, Sid is an Arsenal fan.”

Ayan’s next directorial is Brahmastra, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, and Nagarjuna among others. Alia’s first look from the film was revealed on Tuesday, as she celebrated her 29th birthday. The film is scheduled for release on September 9, 2022.
