Twitter testing “Status Updates” like Facebook of olden days! Like it or loathe it?

Twitter is testing a “Status Updates” feature similar to the one on Facebook. Check out the leaked screenshots.

Twitter could be undergoing a lot of changes in the coming days considering Elon Musk is wanting to steer it in a different direction. While that edit button is still cooking, Twitter may have been already working on a couple of other features, one of which is related to Status Updates. A new leak suggests that Twitter is testing a “Set a Status” feature that could let you share info on your life activities along with a post, or possibly as a standalone post – just like you do on Facebook.

Based on the screenshots shared by Jane Manchun Wong, it seems that Twitter is testing a “Set a Status” features in the tweet composer box. You can see several options such as “Eating yummy ramen”, Driving Highway, Lurking Twitter, and more. Sadly, there’s no screenshot of how such a post would look on Twitter timeline. This is a feature in testing and may now make it to the future if it does find takers.

Twitter testing Status Updates like Facebook

“Twitter is working on “Set a status” in Tweet Composer, codenamed “Vibe”. You can think of it as something similar to Instagram Threads app’s Status,” says Wong in her tweet.

What remains to be seen is whether this feature makes it to the final version and if so, how will it be received by the Twitter community. Twitter in the past has tested several features that didn’t work out with users. The stories like feature was brought with such hype but was eventually discontinued.

Currently, the long awaited “edit” button is in the works, with Twitter confirming the same after stakeholder Elon Musk put out a poll for the same. Musk in his tweet had asked whether users want the edit button. However, the version of the “edit” button will be different to the one we are used to on Facebook and Instagram. Wong in her previously post had said that Twitter approach to “Edit Tweet” would essentially re-create a new tweet and will keep the older version around.
