Twitter has good news for some laid off employees – Times of India

Twitter has pleasant news for some of its laid off employees. According to a report in Bloomberg, the company is now reaching out to dozens of employees who lost their jobs and asking them to return. Twitter laid off roughly half its staff on Friday following Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition. Reports suggest that the company has let go of almost 50% of its workforce on Friday (November 4). Twitter had 7500 employees when Musk took over. On his very first day at Twitter, Musk sacked chief executive officer Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
Why Twitter is asking sacked employees to come back
According to the report, some of those who are being asked to return were apparently terminated by mistake. Others in the list are those that were reportedly let go before the new management realized that their work and experience may be necessary to build the new features that Musk envisions for the ‘new Twitter’. The report cites people familiar with the moves.
Tweets by staff of the social media company said that teams responsible for communications, content curation, human rights and machine learning ethics were among those that suffered the most brunt of the layoffs. There were also some product and engineering teams.

In his first major announcement about the changes coming to Twitter, Musk has said that the Blue tick verification will no longer be free.”Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit,” declaring “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month,” Musk said in a tweet.
The microblogging platform has in fact updated its app on Apple‘s App Store to start charging $8 for Blue tick verification mark. “Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue, and have more on the way soon. Get Twitter Blue for $7.99/month if you sign up now. Blue checkmark: Power to the people: Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow,” goes the App Store description.
So far the availability details are the same as per the iOS app, “Twitter Blue with verification is currently available on iOS in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.”
