Tunday Kababi, Karim’s, Peter Cat in world’s most legendary restaurant list
India and Indian gastronomy is an experience that has attracted food enthusiasts from all over the world. From old food culture to newer fusion experiences, India has been know to offer a plethora of options for the culinary expert.
Therefore it is no surprise that seven Indian restaurants have found a place in Taste Atlas’ 150 of the most legendary restaurants of the world.
Taste Atlas, Croatia-based experiential travel online guide has released a list of eateries that “are not just places to grab a meal but destinations in their own right, comparable to the world’s most famous museums, galleries and monuments.”
The list released incudes small, family-run eateries from around the world to distinguished Michelin-starred venues.
It is noteworthy that Paragon from Kozhikode, Kerala figures on the list at no 11, Lucknow’s famous Tunday Kababi follows at No. 12. Peter Cat (Kolkata), Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba (Murthal), Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (Bengaluru), Karim’s (Delhi) and Ram Ashraya, Mumbai, were ranked 17, 23, 39, 87 and 112, respectively.

Iconic dish: Aloo paratha
Their claim to fame is aloo paratha, a stuffed Indian bread with a spiced potato filling, served with dollops of butter and homemade pickles.
Mavalli Tiffin Rooms in Bengaluru
Restaurant founded in: 1924
Iconic dish: Rava idli
Founded in 1924 in Bangalore, it gained fame for innovating the now-beloved rava idli during World War II, a period when the staple ingredient, rice, was scarce.
This steamed semolina cake, notable for its soft texture and rich flavor profile drawn from yogurt, cashews, and spices, has since become a comfort food across the nation.
Karim’s in Delhi
Karim’s is a historic restaurant located near Jama Masjid in Old Delhi. It was established in 1913 and serves Mughal delicacies, says Curly Tales.
Ram Ashraya in Mumbai
Established in 1939, Ram Ashraya in Matunga is an iconic outlet known for their amazing South Indian food. The place opens at 5am and it is usually packed with people, says Trip Advisor.
