Tripura: Tipra Motha party says will pass anti-CAA resolution if it comes to power

Tipra Motha party has resolved that it will pass resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) within 150 days of party coming to power in Tripura.

The party released its manifesto for the assembly enumerating what it will do in 150 days of coming to power in Tripura. The party has made 15 promises.

Led by royal scion, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman Motha announced that there is need for socio economic survey in Tripura. “Tribals and muslims people I want to say we will pass a resolution against CAA. Everyone has right stay in India. Like BJP ideologues have said in one country there cannot be two laws, similarly in one country you cannot have law which bars muslims and tribals.”

He added, “We will move resolution in the assembly for CAA is wrong. We have mission 15 in 150 days. We will public grievance redressal system for time bound redressal of grievances besides we will clear all the bills pending in Autonomous district council and empower it to provide employment with more funds.”

He said, “We will provide as many 20,000 new employments.”

Assam had witnessed violent protests in 2019 and early 2020 after Parliament passed the Act, which makes minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible to apply for Indian citizenship. Five people were killed in the protests.

Making its assembly poll debut, Tipra Motha party is contesting 42 seats in February 16 Tripura polls. Around 20 seats are tribal seats and the remaining 22 seats are non-tribal.
