Trevor Lawrence: Jaguars are ‘right there’ following loss to Bengals
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 0-4 on the season following a disappointing 24-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night. Despite the team’s record, rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence believes the team is close to figuring things out.
“We’re up 14-0 at halftime and come back out and just somehow come up on the wrong side of it, that’s tough,” Lawrence said, per the team’s website. “We’re going to bounce back, no doubt, I know what we’re made of. Just seeing how we’ve handled the first three weeks, I know nothing is going to change but, damn, I really want to get a win with these guys. We’ve just got to finish, collectively. It’s everybody. It’s not one side of the ball or anything like that. It’s all of us finishing. I’m not even going to say it’s going to take time, we’re right there and you guys have seen it the last few weeks.”
Jacksonville had a 14-0 lead at halftime before allowing the Bengals to get back in the game with touchdowns on their first drives of the second half. Cincinnati won 24-21 courtesy of an Evan McPherson 35-yard game-winning field goal.
Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer called the loss “devastating” and “heartbreaking.” However, he acknowledged the importance of the club moving on from the loss and looking ahead to next week.
The Jags now have three of their next four games at home as they look for their first win. Their schedule doesn’t do them any favors, though, as they’re set to face the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.
