Trailer of Johnny Depp and Maiwenn’s new French film, Jeanne Du Barry is out; film will debut at Cannes Film Festival in May – Times of India

Johnny Depp’s first film after the bitter courtroom drama that he fought with ex-wife Amber Heard is the French film Jeanne Du Barry, which will debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on May 16. The trailer was unveiled this week. It shows Johnny Depp enacting the regal monarch King Louis XV who is smitten by a young woman, Jeanne Vaubernier, played by Maiwenn, who is also the director of the film. She plays the role of a young working-class woman who will do anything to climb up the social ladder. She meets the King and soon becomes his favourite.Through Jeanne Vaubernier, the King also regains his joy and appetite for life. The passion between the two scandalises the society of that day and age. The film is in French and so far, it has no release date for America.

This period drama will mark Depp’s comeback to mainstream cinema after his personal but rather public spat with ex-wife. Since then, Depp has made perfect use of his time, painting then exhibiting and selling prints of his artwork online for a couple of million dollars. His paintings are usually portraits that fall into the category of pop and street art.

Depp has also been busy with his music and has moved away for the time being to the English countryside where he has been living for almost a year.
