touchscreen: Apple may be planning to bring macOS experience to iPad, here’s how – Times of India

Apple could have plans to bring macOS-like experience to future iPads when the tablet is attached to an external keyboard, a new patent has revealed, as per a report by Patently Apple.
As per the patent description and images, there would be a base device like a keyboard with trackpad, which then could be joined to a computing device like an iPad to bring the macOS-like experience with an Apple Pencil.
The patent could also mean a new Apple device of the future which would be a MacBook and iPad hybrid. Apple may be trying a new tack to build a device that bridges the gap between the aforementioned two types of products and also, offer a budget price point too, to get more potential users to try it out. When the keyboard is not attached, the device could work like an iPad with Apple Pencil support but when attached, the display could turn into a touchscreen one, something which a MacBook is not looking to get in the future.
Something along these lines was also speculated by tech journalist Mark Gurman last month in his Power On newsletter of April 17 in which he envisioned how the future of the ‌iPad‌ would look like. As per Gurman, such a device should have three operating modes: touchscreen, Apple Pencil mode and a Pro mode which gets activated when a keyboard or other display is connected.
It’s a patent and no one can predict whether Apple would choose to go ahead with it. But for now, a new, affordable MacBook-iPad hybrid is something that tech enthusiasts would like to see.
