Tottenham ‘face competition from Real Madrid for Julian Nagelsmann’ after sacking Antonio Conte

Tottenham ‘face competition from Real Madrid for Julian Nagelsmann’ as Spurs begin hunt for a new boss after finally sacking Antonio Conte – but both will ‘have to pay Bayern Munich compensation’ to sign the German

Tottenham could have competition in their bid to bring Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager as Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make a move for the recently-sacked German.

Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern Munich last week in a brutal 61-minute crisis meeting, with the Bavarian side appointing Thomas Tuchel as his replacement.

With Nagelsmann free, Spurs are now wanting to hold talks about him becoming their next permanent manager after Daniel Levy finally pulled the trigger and sacked Antonio Conte on Sunday night.

However, Real Madrid are also considering making a move for the 35-year-old with Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the Bernabeu uncertain.

Any move for Nagelsmann will not come cheap, though, reports in Germany suggest.

According to Bild, any club interested in signing Nagelsmann before the end of the current campaign will need to pay Bayern Munich compensation, given how the Bavarian club are still paying his £8million-per-year salary despite giving him the boot.

The report from Bild also claims that Real Madrid have potentially requested to pay part of the settlement to speed up talks with the young coach as they look to the future, given how Ancelotti has been linked with the Brazil national team job.

Nagelsmann remains top of Spurs’ wishlist when it comes to appointing Conte’s successor.

After a week of intense speculation – and confusion – the north London club finally announced late on Sunday evening that Conte had departed via mutual consent.

It came after his extraordinary rant following the club’s 3-3 draw with Southampton last week, in which he attacked the players and cited the club’s modern day failures in major competitions.

With Conte’s departure at some interval between either now or the summer having been expected for some time, the club have been able to draw up a list of options as they look to land a replacement this summer. Cristian Stellini will takeover until the end of the campaign with Ryan Mason as his assistant.

Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi and Luis Enrique are just among some of the ten names Spurs have on their list to potentially replace Conte.
