Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici has jetted back to England to face growing uncertainty over his future after he was hit with a global ban from football.

As Sportsmail revealed yesterday, embattled Paratici spent the start of the week in his native Italy and was in his homeland as news broke of coach Antonio Conte’s departure on Sunday night.

The club’s managing director of football Paratici was not at Tottenham’s Enfield HQ on Thursday, however we understand Paratici has now returned to the UK.

There is significant confusion over Paratici’s future in north London after the bombshell news on Wednesday that FIFA had suspended the 50-year-old from all footballing activity amid accusations of financial irregularities from his time at Juventus.

His return to Italy also coincided with the scheduled start of criminal proceedings linked to the Juventus case on Monday – though that has since been postponed until May 10.

Developments over his future at Spurs are likely to accelerate now he is back in England, though sources insisted yesterday his return is not ultimately linked to the ban.

Paratici’s continued involvement in Tottenham’s operation was thrown into disarray on Wednesday after FIFA extended an original suspension, dished out by the Italian football federation for alleged financial wrongdoing dating back to his time with Juve, to a worldwide ban.

Tottenham say they were not notified ahead of FIFA’s announcement on Wednesday morning.

Club officials have spent the last 48 hours trying to ascertain how far the restrictions imposed by FIFA reach.

Paratici’s 30-month ban stretches across all football-related activities, administrative, sports or any other, at national and international level – but Spurs want clarity over those sanctions.

But as of Thursday night, there was still no official confirmation from Tottenham or FIFA over how the ruling impacts on Paratici’s role.

Paratici has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, but his future at the club is now in major doubt nonetheless.
