Tory Burch Fêtes Lewis Miller’s New Book, “Flower Flash”
In the land of Tory Burch, there’s never any shortage of florals, from the runway-ready rows of shrunken crepe blazers, printed with sage and Hibiscus syriacus, to the accents throughout the brand’s glittering new tri-level SoHo store at 151 Mercer Street. There are hand-painted ceramic chandeliers and sconces by Francesca DiMattio, and a dining table set with plates adorned with lilac branches. But last night, the shop’s oak, rattan, and brass were given an extra layer of fall flora thanks to Lewis Miller Designs.
The Manhattan florist—whose surprise “Flower Flash” installations pop up around the city, bursting from unsuspecting garbage cans or taxi cabs—was on hand to debut his first tome, Flower Flash, out November 2 from Monacelli. “We had a really clear vision of what we wanted this book to be, and it celebrates the DNA of who we are,” Miller told a room full of fans and friends alike, including Christy Turlington, John Derian, and Vogue’s Willow Lindley and Virginia Smith. “In [the book], you’ll see Flower Flashes, but it’s also all of the things that make me happy; colors, textures, prints. It’s a visual feast.”
On page 78, readers will find a striking image of a Valentine’s Day arrangement, replete with pink carnations repurposed from the Tory Burch fall/winter 2018 runway show held under New York’s 59th Street Bridge; the first collaboration between Burch and Miller. “It was kind of a love letter to New York,” Burch told Vogue. Since then, the two have remained steadfast friends and collaborators, brought to life once again in the form of a Flower Flash slated to come to life tomorrow at an undisclosed SoHo location. “Our first store was blocks away on Elizabeth Street, so this feels like a homecoming,” Burch added. “With the opening of our Mercer Street store, we’re focused on supporting community and local businesses, and I hope the Flower Flash will bring New Yorkers an unexpected moment of happiness as they’re passing by.”
