Top American bobsledder Meyers Taylor suggests Olympic postponement
A top American medal threat at the Beijing Olympics is wondering why the Winter Games haven’t been postponed as she and others deal with COVID-19 issues.
this is all so crazy- I feel like we should re-stage the Olympics next year https://t.co/izI3KddQX2

American bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor made her feelings known on Twitter while retweeting a story by CBC’s Devin Heroux on Keegan Messing’s plight. The Canadian figure skater is stuck at home while awaiting what he hopes will be two negative COVID tests to allow him to travel to Beijing.
Meyers Taylor, who travelled with her young son to the Olympics, said Tuesday on social media she tested positive after arriving in Beijing and is in isolation.
Challenging for any athlete who tests positive but I believe @eamslider24 is @TeamUSA’s only mom with a child here. She praised the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee and quarantine hotel for getting her a pump and getting her breast milk to Nico, because she’s still nursing. https://t.co/WujWQ5QMpV

“I feel great, I feel like I could go out and train,” the three-time Olympic medallist said in an interview with USA TODAY Sports. “That’s the most frustrating thing.”
Former Canadian star bobsledder Kaillie Humphries, who now represents the U.S., said on social media earlier this week she delayed her departure to Beijing after contracting COVID-19 two weeks ago.
Two-time Olympic gold medal-winning cross-country skier Simen Hegstad Krüger of Norway, meanwhile, will miss the start of the Olympics after testing positive.
Tom Schad of USA Today reported on the latest COVID-19 figures in the Olympic ‘closed loop’ on Wednesday.
FWIW: Brian McCloskey, chair of Beijing 2022’s medical expert panel, said 11 people who have tested positive at the Games have been hospitalized because they were symptomatic.
“None of those are seriously ill in any way,” he said.— Tom Schad (@Tom_Schad) February 2, 2022
The closed loop separates Olympic participants from the general public.
