The prices of tomatoes are currently soaring in many parts of the country. Consumers are shocked to see only 1 kilo of this common ingredient costing as much as Rs 80-100. In some regions, it has gone even beyond Rs. 100 per kilo. This is three to four times the regular price. Reports suggest that a number of factors, including heatwave conditions and delayed monsoons, have caused the price hike. Tomatoes being a staple in kitchens across India, this upsurge is particularly worrying.
