Tom Brady’s 23rd year in the NFL could be cut short if Chris Simms is to be believed, as the analyst and former Buccaneer tipped the seven-time Super Bowl winner for a possible midseason departure amid his marital woes with wife Gisele Bundchen.
The pair have reportedly hired divorce lawyers 13 years into their marriage, and the are rumored to be living apart after a huge fight.
And now, Simms believes a shocking midseason retirement could be on the cards for Brady after his team’s lackluster 3-3 start to the season.
Brady, 45, and supermodel Bundchen, 42, have been married for 13 years but it has been reported that they have both recently hired divorce lawyers
Chris Simms played four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being drafted in 2003.
Simms was asked on NBC’s ‘Pro Football Talk Live’ by Mike Florio if he thought Brady or Aaron Rodgers was more likely for a midseason exit, and his answer was telling.
‘Normally I’d feel like it’s Rodgers that would be that guy,’ he said. ‘But because of this year and some of the off-the-field stuff that’s hitting home and personal stuff with Brady, this is the one year I feel maybe it might be Brady.
‘I think Rodgers is usually the guy to be more renegade and be like “screw this, I’m out of here.” But this is a weird year where we’re seeing Brady do weird crap and having personal issues.’
Bundchen reportedly took the lead in hiring a divorce attorney, according to People
Brady missed 11 days of Tampa Bay’s training camp last summer for ‘personal reasons’, with the mysterious break coming after Brady unretired from the sport – which some have speculated is a reason for the pair’s marital issues.
However, the pair’s issues are not related to his football career, as DailyMail.com previously confirmed.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like Bundchen is overly happy in the marriage at the moment, as People reported she took the lead on hiring a divorce attorney.
Another report painted a bleaker picture.
Brady has had a somewhat lackluster start to the season for the Bucs by his lofty standards
‘I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be,’ an anonymous source told Page Six.
Amid the reported marital woes, Brady is not having a vintage season by his sky-high standards.
Despite taking care of the ball (he’s thrown just one interception), the former Patriots quarterback has just one game with multiple passing touchdowns.
He is also averaging just 6.7 yards per attempt, which would be the third-lowest mark of his career over a full season.
Brady and the Bucs – assuming he doesn’t bring Simms’ prediction to fruition before the weekend – will travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday.
