Tom Brady makes Tony Romo’s CBS contract look like chump change
With Tom Brady retiring, he will make more than twice what Tony Romo gets from CBS.
Now that Tom Brady is officially done playing football, he is about to be an incredibly well-compensated NFL game analyst.
Back in the spring, Brady signed a 10-year deal worth $375 million to become the No. 1 football analyst for FOX upon retirement. His move to the No. 1 booth is highly controversial, as his new FOX colleague Greg Olsen has really made great strides in his first two seasons since retiring.
By comparison, Romo gets around $17 million to call games in CBS’ No. 1 booth alongside Jim Nantz.
“I don’t know, Jim, but I think that might be more than twice what I make here.”
“Tony!!!”
Tom Brady’s FOX contract dwarves Tony Romo’s CBS deal in comparison
Look. Brady is the greatest quarterback the NFL has ever seen. He won a combined seven Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His accolades are unrivaled in the sport. However, this is a new venture for him in the broadcasting booth. It remains to be seen how good he will be at calling games. At least he will have Kevin Burkhardt to lean on initially.
While Brady played mostly in the AFC, FOX does seem to be a good fit for him. His best buddy Rob Gronkowski has been able to carve out a niche on the studio set when he has been in and out of retirement. Of course, nobody could be happier that Brady is calling it a career as a player than Colin Cowherd. This can only mean that Brady will appear live in studio on The Herd this season!
Ultimately, the $375 million was the price to get into the Brady broadcasting sweepstakes. Truth be told, nobody is worth that amount of money to call games, but very rarely do media titans get to negotiate with bona-fide superstars quite like this. No doubt about it, Brady will be scrutinized to the umpteenth degree during his first year in the booth. Let’s just hope he is not Jason Witten.
For the first time since the 1999 NFL season, Brady will not be playing for someone on Sundays.
