Tokyo Olympics 2020: Neeraj Chopra wins Gold in Javelin, India’s first-ever win in athletics
India’s javelin ace Neeraj Chopra has scripted history in Tokyo Olympics 2020. The 23-year-old has become the second Indian, after Abhinav Bindra, to win an individual gold medal for India.
His monstrous throw in the second round proved too good for other javelin throwers. His biggest rival, Johannes Vetter, was out in the first round of the finals.

Neeraj Chopra finished on top with a throw that went 87.58m.
Czech Republic’s Vadlejch (86.67m) and Vítězslav Veselý (85.44m) won silver and bronze respectively.

With this medal, India goes past their previous best and have 7 medals in their tally with four bronze, two silver and one gold.
Twitteratis were overjoyed with the win. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote: “History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold. #Tokyo2020.”
Neeraj Chopra’s father also reacted after his win and said: “I am so happy that the country’s dream has been fulfilled through the efforts of my son. After seeing the level of his training, we were sure of this medal.”
