Having lost their first five matches of the season on the trot, Mumbai are staring at an early exit from IPL 2022.
TimesofIndia.com ran a poll asking fans 7 questions as to what is ailing the Rohit Sharma-led side.
The first question was: Are Rohit Sharma‘s hands as captain tied because he doesn’t have too many strong players at his disposal this season?
6757 votes were registered as yes for the answer of this question. Just 1976 fans thought otherwise. It seems some of the choices at this year mega auction are coming back to haunt Mumbai.
The second question was: Which former player are Mumbai Indians missing the most?
4508 votes were polled in favour of New Zealand pacer Trent Boult who now plays for Rajasthan Royals. Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya got 2324 votes. South African wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock, who was bought by new team Lucknow Super Giants, got 1536 votes. The option of “Someone else” got 269 votes and Krunal Pandya got 92 votes.
The third question was: Jasprit Bumrah has taken 4 wickets so far in 5 games. Is his form one of the main reasons for Mumbai’s poor show so far?
5362 fans thought that the poor strike rate of Jasprit Bumrah is one of the reasons for Mumbai Indians’ poor show, while 3365 fans thought otherwise.
The fourth question was: In hindsight Mumbai’s strategy of saving most of their auction purse for Ishan Kishan (Rs 15.25 Cr) was…the choices were “The right strategy” or “A miscalculation”.
As many as 7193 fans thought that Mumbai Indians’ team management strategy of holding back so much money for Ishan Kishan was a wrong choice and voted for the “A miscalculation” option. Only 1543 votes came in for the “The right strategy” option.
The fifth question was: Is there too much pressure on Rohit Sharma currently as India captain, MI captain and key batsman and is that reflecting in his batting form?
Captain Rohit Sharma has got starts but hasn’t really been able to notch up a string of high scores yet at the top of the order and that has not helped the Mumbai Indians cause. 4815 votes were polled for the Yes option, while 3922 votes were registered for the No option.
The sixth question was: Kieron Pollard was retained by Mumbai Indians. Is his poor form with the bat so far really hurting the team?
Kieron Pollard has been a match-winner for Mumbai Indians ever since he joined the franchise. The big-hitting West Indies all-rounder has won matches for Mumbai Indians from almost impossible situations. But this season, Pollard has not got going with the bat as of now.
7775 fans thought the poor form of Pollard is one of the main reasons for Mumbai Indians’ poor performance so far this season, while 954 fans thought otherwise.
The seventh and the last question was: Can Mumbai Indians get their campaign back on track and still qualify for the playoffs this season?
6512 fans who voted haven given up all hope of a Mumbai Indians comeback and voted for the No option. 2189 fans still think that a miracle can still save Mumbai in IPL 2022.
For the record, Mumbai Indians need to win at least eight of their remaining nine games to make it to the playoffs.
