Titans’ new $2.1bn stadium ‘approved by Nashville mayor with legislation filed to go before council’

Tennessee Titans’ new $2.1bn stadium ‘is approved by Nashville mayor with legislation filed to go before council on March 7’ as plans to build dome for the 2026 season take shape

The latest hurdle to approving the new two-billion dollar proposal for the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium has been cleared.

Nashville, Tennessee mayor John Cooper seems to have approved the plans and filed legislation to confirm the building of the new arena.

This final agreement took feedback from the city’s council and the community – adding ‘key details in the form of development and lease agreements,’ as well as ‘street and plaza infrastructure to be covered by the Titans, in addition to infrastructure required to open the new stadium,’ according to The Tennessean.

Last December, a term sheet was been approved by the council on what is a proposed domed $2.2bn stadium to be built next to Nissan Stadium – where the Titans currently play.

Council members voted 27-8-3 in favor of agreeing to the terms, before the finer details were approved and finalized with a goal of opening by 2026.

The plans say the facility will cover 1.7million square feet with a capacity of about 60,000.

While the weather in central Tennessee is not notable for being cold, the dome will allow them to host events such as the Super Bowl, the Final Four, College Football Playoff matches and other major sporting events.

Development on Nissan Stadium began in 1997 and opened in 1999 – having hosted the Titans, Nashville SC, and the football team for Tennessee State University.

The lease for the stadium will be half funded by the Titans, the NFL, and personal seat licenses.

The rest of the funding will come from a tax on hotels paid by tourists, sales tax from in the stadium on both NFL and the stadium campus, and the rest coming from the state.

At $2.2billion, this is projected to be the second most expensive stadium development in history – behind the $5.5bn spent to build SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
