Tinder will stop charging older users more to access Tinder+ by the end of Q2 this year, the company announced. The development comes after a report by Mozilla and Consumers International said that the online dating platform charged users between the ages of 30 and 49 an average of 65.3% more than the younger users in every country except Brazil.
Tinder, in a blogpost, has said that it offered its younger users subscriptions at different rates so as to “make Tinder affordable for those in school or early in their careers.” and that it plans to pull the plug on age-based pricing altogether.
“Last year we discontinued offering lower prices for younger members in the US, Australia, and more recently in the UK. We recently announced that we will be eliminating age based pricing for all of our members in all markets by the end of Q2 this year.” said the company in the blogpost
The online dating platform offers three tiers of subscription (Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum) and à la carte features like Super Like and Boost. In 2022, the company is testing ways to offer the ‘See Who Likes You’ and ‘Passport’ features on an à la carte basis.
“We think the combination of Tinder Coins as a method of payment and an expanded set of à la carte features will give all our members far more ways to find a Tinder experience that fits their budget and their needs. Tinder Coins are available in a handful of markets and we plan to roll it out in Q3 around the world,” added the firm.
