Tiger Woods gives health update ahead of PGA Championship

The anticipation of seeing Tiger Woods compete in the PGA Championship this week has been building ever since he returned to the links for the Masters and said he planned on playing at Southern Hills this May. It has completely boiled over now that the big event in Tulsa, Oklahoma is finally here and Woods looks ready as ever to compete at a high level.

But what’s more exciting than seeing Woods warm up for the big event is hearing how much healthier he is feels than when he was at Augusta National about five weeks ago when he struggled to walk up some of the hills on his surgically-repaired right leg.

“It’s only going to keep getting stronger,” Woods told reporters, via ESPN. “The more I use it, the more strength it gains. Am I ever going to have full mobility? No. Never again. But I’ll be able to get stronger. It’s going to ache, but that’s the way it’s going to be.”

The 15-time major champion admitted last month that he was in pain at the Masters, his first competition since a serious car crash left him with career-threatening injuries. But after coming in 47th after at Augusta, Woods still looked to the future and said he planned to rest up enough to compete at Southern Hills.

“I’m excited about [this week],” Woods said. “I’m not going to play that much going forward, so anytime I do play, it’s going to be fun to play and to compete. There are only so many money games you can play at home.”

Fewer tournaments also mean fewer chances for Woods to win his 83rd PGA Tour event and set the record for winningest golfer. He currently sits tied at 82 wins with Sam Snead.
