Three infiltrators arrested along LoC in Poonch of Jammu
The officials said that during the operation to foil the infiltration bid, one army personnel was injured as well. The official statement from the defence spokesperson informed that in the intervening nights of May 30 and 31, a joint team of army and police intercepted three to four infiltrators who were allegedly attempting to cross the fence at Khari Karmara area of Poonch sector, taking advantage of bad weather and heavy rains.
“After tracking the movement at about 0130 hours, a well sited Indian Army ambush on challenging them was fired upon, and in the retaliatory firefight, some terrorists were hit,” read the official statement. The area was cordoned off, and during the search operation, blood trails were found. “Three terrorists with some weapons, and warlike stores, including one IED and a narco, have been apprehended. One Indian Army soldier was injured in the ensuing firing and has been evacuated,” said the spokesperson. The search operation in the area continues.
The officials informed that the incident took place in the Gulpur sector, and the three infiltrators have been identified as Mohd Farooq, who is injured, Mohd Riaz, and Mohd Zubair, all in their twenties. The officials claim to have seized an AK assault rifle, two pistols, six grenades, a 10-kg IED which was planted inside a pressure cooker that was diffused, and several packets of suspected heroin.
The army and police officials have maintained that the militant groups have planned to activate the Jammu region, especially the Poonch-Rajouri range along the Line of Control, this year. In January this year, seven civilians were killed and 14 others injured in a targeted attack. Later in April and May, ten army men, including five elite paracommandos, were killed in the Poonch-Rajouri range. The People Anti Fascist Front, an offshoot of Jaish e Muhammad took responsibility for the killings.
