This Vintage Lookbook Comes at the Perfect Time
Tei Shi is quite the model for Laboucarié’s pieces. When the LA-based singer deftly switched between ladylike and Y2K haute sleaze clothes with such confidence, she looked as if Laboucarié hired her for the specific job. A few months later, Tei Shi flew to New York to model for Laboucarié’s lookbook that showed some of her most delicious finds.
Laboucarié’s husband, Marek Berry, photographed the lookbook on the street and in their home. “I think Tei Shi’s connection with Marie helped her feel confident in what she was wearing, which then translated into dynamic pictures,” Berry says. Laboucarié styled Tei Shi herself, a first for the vintage dealer. Laboucarié was inspired by women from the ’90s and early 2000s, mainly those from Italy and the South of France, where Laboucarié grew up. “I really wanted to do something super extravagant,” she says.
The vintage dealer certainly delivered a glamorous fantasy with the singer. On a side street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Tei Shi plays a romantic naughties babe in an ’80s white lace Kenzo turtleneck top layered under a Dior spring 2000 dress that laces diagonally across the body, and a pair of intergalactic square-framed sunglasses from the Dior spring 2003 collection. In another image, she’s an ’80s bombshell in a cropped Jean Paul Gaultier jacket for Girbo worn over a flouncy ’90s Roberto Cavalli shirt. Celebrity lovers will recognize an itty bitty red dress from spring 2003 in the lookbook, as it’s the same piece that Emily Ratajkowski wore this past October.
