This New Ferragamo-Owned Milan Hotel Is Set to Be a Fashion Week Favorite

Under the rubric of their hotel group, the Lungarno Collection, the Ferragamo family has spent nearly three decades expanding their offering to seven properties—but the five-star Portrait hotels serve as the jewels in their crown. (The first, Portrait Roma, opened in 2006, and was followed by the Portrait Firenze, which sits in an unparalleled location adjacent to the Ponte Vecchio, in 2014.) With the Portrait Milano, however, the group is unveiling their most ambitious project yet—and not only thanks to its sprawl of 73 rooms and suites, which dwarf the more bijou proportions of their previous properties.

Conveniently situated between the grand boulevard of the Corso Venezia and the city’s shopping mecca, the piazza at the center was recently christened a public square by the mayor of the city, and will serve as a thoroughfare of sorts. And for anyone who does find themselves wandering through, they’ll have plenty to keep them occupied: the ground floor of the property now hosts an offshoot of Antonia, the cult Milan fashion boutique, which stocks brands including Loewe and Sacai; an outpost of the glitzy restaurant chain Beefbar; and the flagship store for SO-LE Studio, the jewelry brand launched by Ferragamo scion Maria Sole Ferragamo in 2019.

Then, there’s the culinary program from the hotel itself, which centers around the restaurant 10_11, led by the 32-year-old chef Alberto Quadrio and overlooking the hotel’s lush (and surprisingly large, for central Milan at least) gardens. Offering elevated riffs on Piedmontese staples—think a delicately arranged vitello tonnato, or baked pumpkin with a taleggio cheese fondue served inside the gourd—the space balances plush, Italian modernist-inflected interiors with a livelier atmosphere after dark.
