This Minimalist Bride Wore a Dress by The Row for Her California Dude Ranch Wedding

Danielle Hausberg and Josh Bleiweis were summer camp sweethearts. At age 13, Danielle, encouraged by her Canadian mother, decided to leave her hometown of Los Angeles and spend her school break in the remote Ontario wilderness at Camp White Pine. Her fellow camper? A floppy-haired, adventurous boy from Toronto named Josh. Over swimming, rock climbing, and s’mores, a teen romance blossomed—and lasted far beyond their assigned session. The two began a long distance, Canadian relationship, “seeing each other maybe a few times throughout the year and always reconnecting at camp,” recalls Danielle. Even as they aged out of Camp White Pine, their relationship didn’t: Josh flew down to L.A. to be Danielle’s prom date, and Danielle ended up joining Josh at college in Canada.

Josh, who works in sponsorships for the Los Angeles Sparks, decided to propose to Danielle, now a creative director for AD100 interior designer Jake Arnold, on their eleven-year anniversary in August 2020. Josh ordered takeout from their favorite restaurant, Vito, and filled their Santa Monica apartment with blooms from the L.A. flower market. Then began “the shortest and most awkward dinner we’ve ever had,” Danielle jokes. Although she could see the ring box in his pocket, Josh refused to ask the question until they’d finished their meal. “We sat there pretending to eat for about 20 minutes until he finally proposed,” she recalled. He finally did—with a vintage ring sourced through The Row’s found jewelry collection.

Almost two years later, on the weekend of May 14, 2022, the two wed at Alisal Ranch, a luxury 10,500-acre dude ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley. It reminded them of where they fell in love: “We chose the venue because it reminded us of camp. We wanted to create a similar camp-like experience for our guests where everyone could stay on the property and spend the weekend getting to know each other,” says Danielle.

The couple worked with Chabeli Sanchez of PS Plans to organize the wedding weekend, which began with a pool party and rodeo on Friday night. On Saturday, they married under a canopy of California Sycamore trees as their family and friends looked on during a ceremony in the round. Although the bride had originally planned to wear a 1960s beaded dress, she switched at the last minute to a silk jacquard dress by The Row that she’d seen hanging on display at Neiman Marcus a few months earlier. “It felt classic but still modern and fashion forward,” says Danielle. She paired it with her late grandma’s turquoise cocktail ring, a twisted gold and diamond bracelet given to her by her late aunt, and borrowed earrings from her mother. Josh wore a custom white dinner jacket from Carroll Custom in Beverly Hills adorned with two different cufflinks from each set of his grandparents, who couldn’t make the trip from Toronto. He also wore a gold watch that Danielle’s father wore to his wedding with Danielle’s mother. “Jewelry was a special moment for both Josh and I to incorporate family treasures and celebrate the people that couldn’t be with us that day,” says Danielle.
