This Indian player made cricket debut with England team, 1st Indian to score test century; was richer than Dhoni, Kohli
The first Indian cricketer to score a century in Test cricket was Ranjitsinhji Jadeja, who was from the royal family of Gujarat and is known as the father of Indian cricket.
While Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar are in the ranks of India’s most popular and wealthiest cricketers in the country, one of the most legendary cricketers in the history of Indian cricket was Ranjitsinhji Jadeja, who belonged to the Royal Family of Jamnagar.
KS Ranjitsinhji was a part of the royal family of Jamnagar (Gujarat), and a celebrated and legendary Test cricket player in India. However, Ranjitsinji made his debut in cricket in the England team, since India was still under British rule at the time.
Maharaja Ranjitsinhji made his cricket debut in the English cricket team during the 1880s and 1890s, and was the first Indian cricketer to score a century in Test cricket, even though he was not playing for the Indian cricket team at the time.
Ranjitsinhji is regarded as one of the best Indian cricket players in the history of the game, and is also regarded as the ‘father of Indian cricket’ for his contributions to the game. The iconic cricket shot ‘The Leg Glance’, which is one of the most elegant batting shots, was also invented by the member of the Jadeja royal family.
Not just the England cricket team, but Ranjitsinhji also served as a member of the British Army during World War 1, when India was still under the rule of the East India Company. The iconic cricket tournament, the Ranji Trophy, is also named after the Maharaja.
Ranjitsinhji was not only a revered cricketer and reputed Maharaja, but also one of the wealthiest cricketers in India till date. While Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are currently the richest cricketers in India, the Maharaja was much wealthier than these two players.
Ranjitsinhji and his family own the Ranjit Vilas Palace in Jamnagar, which is worth hundreds of crores at the moment. It is estimated that the royal family of Jamnagar is worth over Rs 3000 crore, much more than the richest cricketers of the country.
