This Ethereal Model’s Face Has Been Immortalized in a Schiaparelli Handbag
Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry sent models down his spring 2022 couture runway this week in pieces that can only be described as wearable art. Breastplates were molded to the torso, heels came equipped with gold-dipped toenails, and accessories were larger than life. And one accessory in particular created a lot of buzz: a gold clutch bag in the shape of a woman’s head.
And not just any woman’s head, but rather that of model Maggie Maurer. Not only did the real Maurer walk in the show, a fellow model followed her down the runway carrying a portable version of Maggie’s visage, rendered in gold.
Those who have been following Roseberry since his Schiaparelli tenure began three years ago may already know that Maurer is among the designer’s favorite muses. The peroxide blonde model, who hails from upstate New York and is one of six siblings, has fronted numerous campaigns for the storied Italian brand. And Maurer often shows her appreciation online. When she’s not wearing Schiaparelli, she’s praising the luxury house and Roseberry’s work online. “This picture means the world to me,” she captioned one of her campaign shots captured by Roseberry. “I love you with all my heart! I am honoured to be a part of your world.”
The statuesque model’s runway experience extends beyond Schiaparelli, too. Not only has she been in front of renowned photographer Colin Dodgson’s camera numerous times, her distinctive, androgynous aesthetic has also landed her Peter Do campaigns. Plus Maurer, who now resides in Paris, has walked for the likes of Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Jean Paul Gaultier.
