When it comes to comfort foods that can keep you warm during winters and days when you are sick, soups always sound like a good idea. It is easy to make, highly nutritious, and makes for a wholesome meal too. Well, we all have tasted and relished hot and warm soups, but, have you ever tried a soup, that is being cooked in the same broth for over 50 years? Sounds bizarre? It is true, and there is a restaurant in Bangkok that has been cooking soup in the same broth for over 50 years and keeps adding fresh meat and tripe to it daily. Take a look at the video.

This video doing the rounds on social media is of a restaurant posted on Instagram by the handle @tonsil. The video features the owner stirring a gigantic wok of soup filled with meat, vegetables, and broth. And the soup is served in large bowls along with noodles.

As per the post, Wattana Panich in Bangkok’s most famous restaurant and has been cooking its soup in the same broth for almost 50 years. The great big pot of soup has been simmering away in the same broth for almost five decades, while fresh meat and tripe is added to the soup daily. This act is being carried out by the three generations of the family.
The viral video posted on April 3, 2023, has garnered over 3.5 lakh likes and 7.2 million views till date. If we look at the comments, some users are surprised, while others have expressed concerns about the hygiene of the food.

An elaborate comment on the post reads, “It’s not so hard to understand. If you look this place up, there’s actually an article that talks about this being an ancient way of cooking soup, since fires were not easy to start for our ancestors, it’s a much easier option to keep the fire going and never letting it out, in turn they had soups and stews that would be cooking for days while they just keep adding fresh ingredients and fire wood.”
