‘There is no original composer or writer for Jhumka Gira Re,’ says Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani musicologist Pavan Jha – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

The new song What Jhumka? from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was recently dropped and has already become a rage on social media. Composed by Pritam, sung by Arijit, and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, the makers have credited the song to Madan Mohan and Raja Mehdi Ali Khan.
Throwing light on the actual composition, Pavan Jha, the musicologist, said to ETimes, “Jhumka gira re song from Mera Saaya starring Sadhana became a popular muhawara, a popular idiom, but Mera Saaya version was not originally composed by Madan Mohan or written by Raja Mehdi Ali khan as it has been credited for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.It is a part of the oral tradition of folk songs. In 1947, Shamshad Begum sang it for a record, and before that, in 1932, Miss Dulari sang for a record. The Mera Saayadhun has been taken from the Miss Dulari song. In folk songs, there is no original song. It’s the first recorded song, because before that it’s part of our oral tradition.”
