The Secrets Behind Tessa Thompson’s ’90s Supermodel Makeup
Earth-toned beauty need not equate a lack of glamour—rather, when applied correctly, nudes and browns set the stage for a completely luxurious lean.
Case in point: For Monday’s premiere of Creed III in Los Angeles, Tessa Thompson furthered her champagne gold Wiederhoeft dress (and right-off-the-runway choker) with an elegant beauty look crafted using neutral hues. “When Tessa and I talked about the makeup look for the premiere, the key words were: 90s-inspired, lifted, and sculpted,” says makeup artist Nina Park, who relied on an assemblage of products from Armani Beauty to achieve the aesthetic. “We wanted to pare down on the makeup and enhance her beautiful features, building out the brow, elongated, lifted eyes, and sculpted cheekbones.”
Brushings of Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation in Tan Golden and Deep Golden served as an effulgent (and strategically bronzed) base, with Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer in Champagne offering additional highlight. The eyes played host to a deep nude liquid shadow punctuated by a flick of onyx eyeliner. And at lip level Armani Beauty Lip Power Lipstick in Selfless (which Thompson took along for touch-ups) made for a quintessentially ’90s mauve move. Laminated brows, side-swept burgundy lengths, and a single kiss curl finessed by hairstylist Lacy Redway provided a luxurious and perfectly playful finish.
