William, the Prince of Wales, and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, arrived at Boston’s Logan Airport today wearing coordinated black suits. The couple are in town for the Earthshot prize for environmental innovators, presented by the Royal Foundation. The trip is the royal couple’s first to the U.S. in eight years, and also the first since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Likely anticipating the close scrutiny their visit would invite, William and Kate arrived in sharp but muted business attire. The Princess of Wales donned a closely cropped blazer featuring shoulder pads over a turtleneck and ankle-length trousers. Meanwhile, Prince William wore a dark suit paired with a blue tie. Looking at the almost-matching outfits, it appears that the couple wants to send a message of unity and strength.
There are three days of public engagements planned for the royal couple while they are in Boston, culminating in an awards ceremony that will feature a performance by Billie Eilish. Other items on the itinerary include a visit to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Museum, where a visit with the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy, will take place.
Prince William thanked Boston for its show of support and paid tribute to his late grandmother in an official statement released shortly after the couple’s arrival. “I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly of Boston for their many tributes paid to the late Queen,” he said. “She remembered her 1976 bicentennial visit with great fondness. My grandmother was one of life’s optimists. And so am I.”
