The NFLPA’s statement read:
‘Our union has agreed to change the concussion protocols to protect players from returning to play in the case of any similar incident to what we saw on September 25.’
‘We would like these changes to go into effect before this weekend’s games to immediately protect the players and hope the NFL accepts the changes before then as well.’
‘As we have discussed with the NFLPA, we agree that changes to the joint NFL-NFLPA protocols are necessary to further enhance player safety.’
‘We have already spoken to members of the NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committee and the leadership of the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultants and Independent Certified Athletic Trainers who serve as spotters to discuss these likely changes.’
The incident occurred when Josh Tupou of the Bengals tackled Tagovailoa in the first half
All of this comes after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was stretchered off in week four’s Thursday Night football game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a concussion.
Only four days prior Tagovailoa appeared, to suffer a concussion after taking a hit to the head and stumbling upon standing up against the Buffalo Bills.
Regardless of this he had allegedly passed the sideline concussion test, and was diagnosed with only having a back injury.
Following a review of the situation by the NFLPA, the independent neuro trauma consultant that examined Tagovailoa was fired after it was discovered he made several mistakes.
Just four days earlier, Tagovailoa staggered around after a hit, appearing to be concussed
