The Masters Round 1 3-ball bets (Back Collin Morikawa on Thursday)

Get ready for the first round of The Masters!

I’ve already given you as many bets as possible the past few days. You can see my picks to win here and my favorite prop bets here.

The only thing we have left is round by round bets, which is what we’re about to jump into.

These bets are called “3-balls”. They’re a bet on a golfer to finish with a better score compared to the two golfers he’s playing alongside for a specific round. These wager are only for one round, not the full tournament.

It’s a great way to make the opening two rounds a little bit more exciting to follow.

Masters Round 1 3-ball bets

  • Danny Willett +188 vs. Koepka/Woodland
  • Morikawa +150 vs. Zalatoris/Fitzpatrick
  • Tom Hoge +160 vs. Kim/Mickelson

Danny Willett +188 vs. Koepka/Woodland

Sure, Brooks Koepka won last week’s LIV event, but that’s not enough to convince me to bet on him this week, especially considering he has missed the cut at The Masters in two straight years. Until he proves he can compete alongside PGA Tour golfers at major tournament, I’m going to bet against him.

Gary Woodland enters the tournament in terrible form, including losing strokes putting in seven straight starts and ranking 199th on Tour in strokes gained: putting. Yikes.

Danny Willett went through a rough patch after winning The Masters in 2016, but he finished T12 here last year and he’s entering this year’s edition of the event in solid form. I like him at +188 to win this group on Thursday.

Morikawa +150 vs. Zalatoris/Fitzpatrick

This is a fade of two golfers who are completely out of form. Will Zalatoris has gone T59, 73rd, and T53 in his last three starts, losing major strokes putting in all three of those events. Meanwhile, Matt Fitzpatrick hasn’t had his game together all season. He went T31, missed cut, and missed cut in his last three starts and he uncharacteristically ranks 172nd in strokes gained: approach this season.

Let’s fade those two guys and take Morikawa at +150 to post the lowest score of the group on Thursday.

Tom Hoge +160 vs. Kim/Mickelson

Phil Mickelson is a non-factor in this group. He hasn’t looked competent on a golf course since winning the PGA Championship in 2021.

So, this 3-ball group comes down to Si Woo Kim and Tom Hoge. Hoge won the Par 3 contest on Wednesday, which may not mean much, but could be something. At the very least, his short irons and wedges seem to be dialed in.

It’s also worth noting that Hoge ranks first in strokes gained: approach this season and 14th in total strokes gained.

Meanwhile, Kim may have peaked too early to be a serious contender at The Masters. He’s finished inside the Top 20 just once since winning the Sony Open in January. He ranks in 26th in total strokes gained this season.

It’s going to be a close one, but I’ll back at Hoge at +160.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
