The incredible story of Mohsin Khan, LSG’s hero against Mumbai Indians
Mohsin Khan displayed remarkable resilience and determination in a thrilling match for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL. After an impressive debut season in the previous year’s IPL, where he showcased his talent by picking up 14 wickets in nine matches, Khan’s progress was hindered by a severe injury that forced him to miss the entire domestic season. However, undeterred by the challenges, he made a triumphant return to the field.
In his first match back for LSG in the IPL 2023, Khan was unfortunately unable to bowl due to rain, which washed out the match after his team’s innings. Finally, on May 7, he stepped onto the pitch to bowl against the Gujarat Titans, marking his comeback to competitive cricket after a year-long absence.
However, it was a challenging start for him as he struggled to find his rhythm. The lack of pace and sharpness that had previously made him a formidable bowler were evident as Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma took 20 runs off his first two overs.
LSG captain Krunal Pandya had no choice but to take Khan out of the attack. However, when he was given another opportunity, the odds were stacked against him, with the powerful MI duo of Tim David and Cameron Green needing just 11 runs off six balls to secure victory. Undeterred, Khan bowled a series of exceptional deliveries that would ultimately turn the tide in LSG’s favour.
With precise length balls angled away from the right-handed batsmen, Khan’s variations in pace made it difficult for David and Green to score boundaries. As the equation came down to nine runs off three balls, Khan executed two impeccable yorkers that shattered Green’s stumps, sealing the match for LSG.
Khan’s last over yielded only five runs, propelling LSG to the third position in the standings and significantly boosting their chances of securing a playoff spot.
Beyond the challenges on the cricket field, Khan also had to cope with a personal issue during this time. His father had been in the ICU for the past ten days and was only discharged a day before the match-winning last over.
Emotionally moved by the situation, Khan dedicated his performance to his father, expressing gratitude to his team and support staff for their unwavering support during his difficult phase.
Reflecting on his remarkable comeback, Khan attributed his success to the execution of his practice plans and the guidance of his captain, Krunal Pandya.
With a strong determination to overcome adversity and a focus on executing his skills under pressure, Mohsin Khan has proven his resilience and showcased his potential to be a valuable asset for LSG in their pursuit of IPL success.
