The Duchess of Cambridge Wears a Cool-Girl Favorite—and the Color of the Season—in Belize

The fashion pack sat up and took notice when the Duchess of Cambridge—who expertly navigates public life in a mix of Alexander McQueen formalwear, accessible accessories, and classic (some might say safe) day dresses—wore The Vampire’s Wife on a trip to Dublin. That was all the way back in 2020, and Kate Middleton’s emerald Falconetti dress (accessorized with a pint of Guinness) had started to seem like a one-off foray into insider brands from the royal, a conscious dresser who remains steadfastly loyal to the Zara blazers and Penelope Chilvers boots she’s worn since her earliest days in the limelight.

It’s a second outing in The Vampire’s Wife for the Duchess of Cambridge.

But for a reception last night in Belize, Middleton once again reached for one of Susie Cave’s unmistakable metallic gowns, as seen on everyone from Sienna Miller to Maggie Gyllenhaal to Alexa Chung. The Duchess—who touched down in Belize wearing a blue Jenny Packham look that nodded to the country’s flag—wore the full-length Light Sleeper silhouette, which has capped sleeves ideal for Caribbean evenings. She added silver Jimmy Choo heels and a pair of Onitaa earrings.

Not only will Middleton’s choice of dress have been met with nods of recognition (and approval) from cool girls everywhere, it’s also in the color of the season: hot pink. The spring/summer 2022 runways were awash with pink pieces, from Valentino to Versace. So when Middleton joined her husband Prince William at the event to honor the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year during their royal tour, she managed to put the spotlight on a great British brand, and looked bang on-trend while doing it. Well played.
