The Best Dressed Stars This Week Reinvented Classic Shapes
Both on the red carpets and the streets this week, Hollywood stars chose to reinvent classic shapes—giving daywear and eveningwear unexpected updates. Jennifer Lopez made the prim-and-proper dress totally J.Lo when she stepped out in New York wearing Gucci’s lilac lace dress, complete with a crisp white collar; the sheer fabrication made it feel decidedly sexier. In L.A, model Hailey Bieber reinvented the black suit by wearing one from Blumarine as a dress, and embracing the design’s vampy cutouts.
Evening-wise, there were plenty of red carpet gowns that felt modern and distinctive. At the premiere of Lord of the Rings in California, Cynthia Erivo slipped into Rick Owens’s silky bias-cut dress, the top and bottom half being two different earth tones. At the House of the Dragon premiere in London, Olivia Cooke opted for vintage. Her archival John Galliano gown, in red velvet, was a unique choice in a sea of silks and tulle. At the premiere of She-Hulk in L.A., Renée Elise Goldsberry shined in Marc Jacobs’s black floor length gown, complete with fringed pailettes at the bust. Yes, black doesn’t have to mean boring!
