The Best Dressed Stars at the 2022 Tony Awards
Broadway is a famously glitzy place, so it’s no surprise that the annual Tony Awards has a red carpet that’s just as theatrical. This evening at the star-studded event celebrating the best musical and plays, celebrities dialed up the elegance and opted for formal ensembles that demanded their own stage. The floor-length gown was reimagined in several different ways, with many stars choosing modern finishings that put a fun yet sophisticated twist on timeless silhouettes.
Take Cynthia Erivo in a white Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown, which came with an accentuated waistline and a built-in hood cape. The creation provided just the right amount of drama. As did Jessica Chastain’s pink Gucci gown, which channeled Jessica Rabbit with a vampy off-the-shoulder neckline. Even the LBDs shone tonight: Ariana DeBose shined (literally) in a sequin Boss number, while Ruth Negga opted for a plunging V neckline in her custom Armani Privé dress, complete with a netted crystal overlay.
The men this evening held their own. Stars like Jeremy Pop in Louis Vuitton and Andrew Garfield in Tom Ford wore sharp suiting tailored to perfection. Dressed in a beaded black and white suit by Bode, Utkarsh Ambudkar paid homage to pearly kings and queens—a tradition in working class London where men or women dress in all black covered with pearl buttons, to collect money for charity. It was these sort of unexpected details that made the Tonys a true fashion spectacle to behold tonight.
