Texas drops epic hype video touting Longhorns’ fighting mentality

The Texas football official Twitter account posted a hype video leading up to the Longhorns’ game against Iowa State (3-3, 0-3 in Big 12) on Saturday. Accompanied by the brief text, “Time to step back into the ring,” it serves as a reminder of how far Texas has come since head coach Steve Sarkisian’s first season as head coach.

In the video, the narrator compares the Longhorns to a boxer, practicing jabs, hooks, uppercuts, combos and counters.

“We did not sign up to land one knockdown,” the narrator says. “We keep fighting until they stay down.”

Not only does the video motivate Texas fans on Twitter, but it shows the differences between this Longhorns team compared to last season.

In 2021, the Longhorns faded after a 4-1 start, losing to Oklahoma, West Virginia and Iowa State and finishing 5-7.

In 2022, Sarkisian has the Longhorns at 4-2,  ranked 22nd in the AP poll, and with wins already over West Virginia and Oklahoma. Texas’ 49-0 win over the Sooners was OU’s worst shutout loss in its history. Earlier in the season, Texas gave No. 3 Alabama all it could handle before falling, 20-19.

The betting lines show just how much of a difference a year can make. Hosting the Cyclones this week, Texas is a 16-point favorite, per OddsChecker, over the team that beat it last season, 30-7.

During his news conference this week, Sarkisian said the Longhorns played well at times last season in Ames, Iowa, but were overwhelmed in the second half.

Sarkisian also said the Longhorns are eager to show the Cyclones how far they have come.

“Our guys are hungry to go out and play a better brand of football this year,” he said. “I watch the intent of our players. I watch the mental intensity. I think our guys are really dialed in.”
