Taylor Swift Does an Extreme Version of High-Low Dressing

Are they, or aren’t they? Taylor Swift and The 1975 singer Matty Healy continued to fuel dating rumors when they stepped out together last night in New York City. The two performers were seen leaving the Electric Lady Studios, where Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Patti Smith have all laid down tracks (perhaps Swift and Healy are doing a song together, too). While the status of their romantic relationship is up in the air, one thing is for certain: we need to talk about Swift’s outfit. 

Compared to the glitzy fashions she’s been sporting on her The Eras Tour, Swift went more casual and downright collegiate. The star of Swift’s ensemble was her vintage purple and white NYU sweater—a meaningful piece, given Swift received an honorary degree from the institution last year, and delivered a speech for the graduating class. As pointed out by a fan account on Instagram, the sweater appears to be vintage from the 1980s—a subtle nod to her record 1989, perhaps—and she paired it with a black mini skirt. Simple, cute, and classic. 

Her choices of accessories, however, were much more high-end. Swift finished off the look with a pair of leather tan low-tops by The Row. They’re the Owen City sneaker style, and they retail for $750. Her bag was a brown leather mini crossbody style from Tod’s; It features a golden chain detail, and retails for $1,825. With the help of her polished footwear and handbag, she took her vintagey outfit from retro to current. Proof that investing in killer accessories can do all of the work for your look. Pair with your coziest sweater, and you’ve got a Swift-approved look.
