Tata Martino has confirmed he is in talks with Inter Miami to become the team’s new coach.

Miami, who Lionel Messi is joining in July, fired Phil Neville at the start of June and are last in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference.

Martino confirmed the link to David Beckham’s MLS team with a brief comment while appearing at Maxi Rodriguez’s farewell game in Argentina on Saturday night.

‘We will continue talking,’ he said when questioned about the links, according to ESPN Argentina.

His comments come on the same night Miami were thrashed 4-1 by Philadelphia Union.

It leaves the team 11 points outside the playoff positions, facing a genuine possibility that they are adrift of making post-season by the time Messi gets there.

But Messi’s move is still a massive signal of ambition from the team that David Beckham co-owns and the job is still highly appealing.

As well as Messi, Miami confirmed the signing of legendary Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets on Friday.

Reports in Spain also surfaced on Saturday suggesting Miami are going to step up the effort to sign Barcelona defender Jordi Alba as well.

Martino previously coached Messi at Barcelona and has worked in MLS before as Atlanta United coach.
